So, the Billerica Skate Festival was held this friday. Before I get into detail of what happened, I'd like to thank Eastern Boarder, Monster, and DBAP Skateboards for helping us make this event turn out how it did.
We started setting up around 6 a.m. A few awesome kids were already down there and setting up when I arrived. We unloaded the boxes and some other supplies, and put kids to work. Dana put a hole in the box before the event even started, but we took care of it with a sign, some duct tape, and improvisation. Good thinking guys. The fire department came through and filled up the dunk tank, albeit disgusting billerica water, kids came through and took the plunge later in the day.
We opened at 10 a.m. Kids were even coming early, and everybody was having a great time. Lots of money was being raised by entry alone. The game of skate was lackluster, honestly I was disappointed by the turnout for it, but it was still fun. Zack Bartlett took first, winning 100 bucks. Kid donated 70 to the park, and used the other 30 to buy a DBAP deck.
Bands started playing at around noon. All the bands absolutely killed it. Definitely the main attraction of the event. There will be photos at the bottom of this post of some bands playing. Thanks to all the bands that came and played, none of this would have been possible without you guys.
All together we raised 3,123.19 on Friday. Thank you everybody that attended this event, everybody who helped out, all the bands, and anybody else who has supported us along the way. We now have enough for the fencing to go up, and planning for the design of the park can commence. Expect something incredible. Or, if you want to get involved with the design, e-mail me at billericaskatepark@yahoo.com.
